Intensive Basic Immigration Training Seminar Now on Video
The Midwest Legal Immigration Project is pleased to announce that it will be presenting its intensive week long immigration legal training seminar by video via the internet. We had this year’s week long seminar professionally recorded. Accordingly, the seminar is available to anyone with an internet connection no matter where you may be.
In order to offer this extremely valuable seminar at a price point that most people can afford, we will be dispensing the seminar in segments. We have attempted to keep each segment focused on the main subject area. As always, the segments proceed in logical progression in order to provide the practitioner with the essential building blocks in logical order. Our goal is to equip the practitioner with the tools and knowledge for a competent flourishing immigration legal practice.
This seminar is designed with both the private attorney practitioner as well as the non-profit organizations which serve the immigrant community. To achieve this, the video-recorded seminar was attended by a cross section from both the private bar and non-profit sectors.
Because some states may allow continuing legal education credits (CLE) for the video presentation of this seminar, we also will be accepting questions submitted by email at
immigrantproject@aol.com. However, as these segments are progressive and build on the preceding parts, we request that you refrain from sending emails until the end of the entire seminar, as it is quite likely your questions will be answered in the upcoming segments not yet viewed. This will avoid us from being unnecessarily flooded with email messages, when it would be better to simply wait to see if your question is answered. Obviously, if you still have the question at the end of the seminar, please email us and we will respond as soon as possible.
In responding to emails, please note that our responses are limited to general questions only. In regard to specific cases, it generally is better to retain competent counsel for assistance on specific complicated matters. However, we are happy to provide theoretical guidance to any question concerning family immigration law, waivers, or deportation and immigration court.
Please note that this section only briefly touches on business immigration issues. The main focus of this seminar is family immigration and deportation defense. There are other seminars and practitioners who have in-depth knowledge of business immigration. However, as this seminar is designed with the private practice attorney as well as to benefit the majority of immigrants who need family immigration or deportation defense.
This seminar is designed to be comprehensive, providing a solid foundation for both immigration legal theory as well as practice. Accordingly, anyone taking this seminar should be prepared to spend the necessary time and attention both taking good notes and reviewing the assigned materials prior to actually viewing the video segment.
In conjunction with each video segment, various class materials are assigned for review. It is strongly recommended that the participate first review the assigned written materials prior to actually viewing the video segment. This will provide significantly more context and meaning to the video segment, and assist in making the necessary connections to adequately understand both the law and applicable procedure.
As usual, we will be utilizing the Guide for Immigration Advocates from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) of San Franciso (
ilrc.org). We have found this to be an excellent textbook, containing both very good practice tips as well as excellent references to pertinent statutes and case law. This text also contains good examples of the items being taught, as well as excellent samples which can be actually utilized by the practitioner in specific immigration law practice scenarios.
